Plattsburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team dropped its second game of the season on Friday evening as the Knights lost 4-1 to William Paterson in the first game of the Best Western Plus Cardinal Classic in Plattsburgh.
Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season in the first half of the defeat.
The Pioneers got the scoring started early as Dromo Quayo scored in just the 2nd minute to give William Paterson a 1-0 early lead.
Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) hit the crossbar at the 19:06 mark in the Knights attempt to tie the game up. Wyant tied the game at one just before the half as he scored from the penalty spot at the 42:45 mark of the first half.
William Paterson held a 6-3 advantage in shots over the Mount in the first half as well as a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.Â
The Pioneers broke open the scoring in the second half as Jordan Saling scored twice in the second half, including one penalty kick goal. His goals came back to back in the 50th and 80th minute respectively. Keysean Brant-Sharp added a goal in the 85th minute to give William Paterson a 4-1 advantage.
The Pioneers outshot the Knights 8-5 in the second half as the Mount had the lone corner kick of the half.
Wyant finished with three shots on the evening as five other players tallied a shot in the contest.
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) took the loss as he allowed two goals and made four saves in 58:10 minutse of action.
Sean Madden (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) made one save in relief.
Quaye added five shots in the contest to lead the Pioneers as Kamal Eletrebi and Chris Fuentes each added an assist in the game. Gabriel Reyes picked up the win in goal for William Paterson as he made three saves in the victory.
William Paterson finished the game with a 14-8 advantage in shots and 9-4 in shots on goal. The Pioneers also held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
At 2-2 on the season, the Mount will take on SUNY Plattsburgh tomorrow afternoon. Kick-off with the Cardinals is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
