Knights Blanked At NYU

Scott makes season-high nine saves

Riverdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team finished off a busy week on Sunday with a 2-0 road loss at New York University. Junior Cyan Scott (Buena Park, Calif.) finished the day with a career-high nine saves in goal.
 
The Violets produced the eventual game winning goal in the 28th minute on Sunday and added an insurance tally early in the second half to secure the victory. Sam March scored both goals for NYU, with the deciding tally coming off a penalty kick at the 27:01 mark of the match.
 
NYU closed the opening 45 minutes with a 10-4 advantage in shots with both Scott and Violet net minder Meghan Marhan making two saves apiece.
 
March put NYU ahead by two goals just under five minutes into the second half when she worked her way through the Mount Saint Mary backline and tucked a shot inside the left post at the 49:48 mark of the tilt.
 
The Mount was outshot 12-1 in the second half, but Scott kept them within striking distance with seven stops in the frame. NYU closed the day with a 22-5 advantage in shots, including an 11-3 edge in shots on goal. The Violets took each of the four corner kicks awarded in the game, with all four coming after halftime.
 
Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) led the Knights with two shots in the game, with Alexa Franceschi (Red Hook, N.Y.), Julia Accetura (Prospect, Conn.) and Allie Salamone (Sound Beach, N.Y.) also recording attempts on the day.
 
Scott finished with nine saves to move her season total to 35 on the season. Over her last three outings, Scott has raised her goals against average to .636 and lowered her goals against average to 2.50. Marhan earned the shutout win with a trio of stops for NYU.

Sunday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 2-8 overall on the season. Next up for the Knights is a trip to league rival Maritime on Wednesday. Kick-off with the Privateers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
