Gina Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.) scored twice and senior
Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) scored her team leading seventh goal of the season on Wednesday as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team remained unbeaten in conference play with a 5-0 road win at Maritime.
The Mount opened a two-goal advantage inside the first 10 minutes of play on Wednesday with Cannella opening the scoring in the eighth minute and the Knights expanding the lead on a Maritime own goal in the 10
th minute. Cannella tallied her team leading seventh goal of the season at the 7:01 mark of the contest.
Rivera doubled the Mount's lead with two goals just under four minutes apart to send the Knights into the intermission with a four-goal advantage. Her first goal of the season came off a feed from
Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.) at the 27:56 mark of the contest and she followed that up with an unassisted tally at 31:21 to close out the scoring in the first half.
Mount Saint Mary scored three times on nine shots prior to the break and finished the opening 45 minutes with a 9-0 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Knights closed out the scoring in the game early in the second half when
Maeve Ward (Warwick, N.Y.) found the back of the net for the second time this season in the 49
th minute. She scored three-and-a-half minutes into the second stanza to give the Mount the final five-goal advantage.
Cannella pushed her team lead in goals to seven and points to 16 in the win, while Rivera and Ward each scored for their second goals of the season, with the duo tied for fourth on the team in points with five.
Junior
Cyan Scott (Buena Park, Calif.) registered the shutout in goal with three second half saves for the Knights. The clean sheet is her third of the season for the Mount and second in the last three contests, moving her goals against average to 2.22 and her save percentage to .655. Lizzie Pomaro closed the night with six stops for Maritime.
Mount Saint Mary rounded out the victory with a 17-3 advantage in overall shots and an 11-3 edge in shots on goal. The Mount also controlled corner kicks on the night, 5-1.
Wednesday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 3-8 overall and to 3-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights return home on Saturday afternoon when they welcome the College of Mount Saint Vincent to Kaplan Field for a 1:00 p.m. kick-off.
