Newburgh, N.Y. – Led by a career-high 24 kills from freshman
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team found the win column for the third time in its last five outings with a 25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-11 non-conference home win over visiting SUNY Delhi on Tuesday night.
In a tightly contested first set, the Mount saw the visitors climb to within 22-21, but three straight kills from Riddle closed out the frame and gave the Mount a 1-0 lead. The Knights totaled 16 kills in the opening stanza, holding Delhi to only 10 winners.
Mount Saint Mary opened a 2-0 lead by using a 7-2 closing run in the second set. Riddle posted a kill and a an ace over the final nine points for the Mount and junior
Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) put away a pair of kills to get the Mount to within one set of victory.
After hitting .161 in the third frame, the Mount rebounded to hit a blistering .417 in the deciding fourth stanza. The Knights put away 11 kills and committed just a single attack error in pulling away for the victory. The Knights never scored more than three straight points in the fourth, but allowed Delhi to score consecutive tallies just once.
Riddle had a big night for the Mount, coming up just one kill shy of matching the program's single match record for kills in a four set match set in 2004. She rounded out the night with 24 winners in 40 attempts, committing just four miscues to hit a red-hot .500 on the night. She closed out the career night with 11 digs, an ace and two blocks for the Knights.
Kralik finished off the win by matching her season-high in kills with 11, adding two digs, with
Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) finishing off the night with seven kills and three total blocks.
Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) chipped in four kills, nine digs and a pair of aces.
Sophomore
Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) lifted a team-high 13 digs for the Knights against the Broncos with junior
Klaire Wall (Point Pleasant, N.J.) finishing up the win with nine digs and three service aces. Freshman
Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) continued her strong play with a career-high 43 assists to go along with seven digs and three service aces.
Delhi was led by 15 kills from Witchney Clersaniville who hit .379 on the night. Erica Prindle handed out 27 assists to lead the Broncos with Shelby Nolan lifting a match-high 14 digs. Taylor Tsatsis closed the night with 13 digs and three aces.
Mount Saint Mary rounded out the night with season-high 49 kills, holding the advantage in the category 49-34. The Mount also finished with the edge in aces 10-6 and total team blocks 6-2.
Tuesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 6-8 overall on the season. Next up for the Mount is a home tri-match on Saturday with league rival Maritime and non-conference opponent Ramapo. The Knights and Privateers open the day at 11:00 a.m. with the Mount and Ramapo squaring off at 3:00 p.m.
