Women’s Volleyball Tops Maritime, Falls To Ramapo

Riddle totals 11 kills in victory

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team closed a three-match home stand with a split of two contests on Saturday. The Knights posted a 25-27, 25-7, 25-12, 25-10 Skyline Conference win over Maritime to open the day, before suffering a 17-25, 16-25, 17-25 non-conference loss to Ramapo to close out the day.
 
Mount Saint Mary 3 – Maritime 1
The Knights posted consecutive wins for the third time this season with its victory in the opener on Saturday. After a sluggish start, the Mount rebounded to produce 37 kills in the victory to earn its second conference win in three outings.
 
After committing 11 attack errors in a first set loss to the Privateers, the Mount responded with 26 kills and just seven miscues over the final three frames. The Mount hit an even .400 in the third stanza and forced Maritime to a negative hitting percentage in the second and fourth sets.
 
Riddle reached double-figures in kills for the seventh time this season, including four straight contests. She led the Mount with 11 kills, hitting .333 in the process, and finished off the win with nine digs, two assists, three aces and a trio of blocks.
 
Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) finished off the win with eight kills for the Knights, adding three aces and two blocks, while Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) produced seven kills and six digs.
 
Senior Emily Mazzurco (Middletown, N.Y.) returned to the Mount Saint Mary lineup with a 23-assist performance, closing the victory with two kills, three aces and seven digs. Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) joined Riddle with a team-high nine digs against Maritime.
 
Maritime was led by nine winners from Celyna Custodio with Meghan Eagleton adding six winners for the Privateers. Erika Kirchner handed out 18 assists in the match, with Abby Solomos and Rylee Malone each lifting a match-high 11 digs.
 
Overall, Mount Saint Mary finished the advantage in kills 37-24 and total team blocks 7-0, while dominating the service game with a 19-2 edge in aces.
 
Ramapo 3 – Mount Saint Mary 0
The Knights rounded out the day hitting -.039 against the Roadrunners, producing only 22 kills and two service aces. The Mount committed 27 attack errors in the second contest of the day, with Ramapo misfiring on just 13 attacks.
 
Kralik continued her strong play for the Mount with a team-high eight kills against the Roadrunners, adding four digs and a block. Riddle finished with six kills for the Knights and matched the team-high with 16 digs.
 
Burke and Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) each finished with a pair of blocks for the Mount with Burke registering one of the team's two aces and Hydo contributing 13 digs. Mazzurco handed out 14 assists, while Barbara joined Riddle with 16 digs.
 
Hannah Frascella led Ramapo with nine kills, with Morgan Ridgeway rounding out the win with five winners and 14 digs. Kate Shirkey posted 17 assists, while Karina Almeda led all players with 29 digs.
 
Ramapo held the edge in kills at 30-22 and aces at 7-2, while Mount Saint Mary posted a 3-2 advantage in total team blocks.
 
Saturday's split moves Mount Saint Mary to 7-9 overall on the season and to 2-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a trip to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. match with the Mariners.
