Riverdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team returned to Skyline Conference play on Monday night, suffering a 15-25, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25 road loss at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Freshman
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished the match by equaling her career-high in kills with 17.
After falling behind 2-0 on Monday, the Knights got back to within a set after battling to a third frame victory. The Knights hit .286 in the third, registering 13 of their 35 kills in the contest. The Mount went on to build a 17-13 lead in the fourth frame, but saw the Dolphins score 12 of the final 17 points, capped by a Tara Maloney winner to finish of the victory.
Riddle finished with nearly half of the team's kills in the match, reaching 17 winners in a contest for the second time this season. She hit an efficient .350 in the match for the Knights and closed a strong all-around match with an ace, four blocks and eight digs.
Senior
Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) registered eight kills against the Dolphins, hitting .353 in 17 attempts. Burke produced three service aces and three total blocks for the Knights.
Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) and
Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) each put way three kills, with Hydo chipping in three aces and Kralik lifting 11 digs.
Freshman
Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) handed out 21 assists to lead the Knights and finished off a double-double with 10 digs.
Alyssa Barbara led the team with 14 digs and joined Burke and Hydo with three aces on the night.
Mount Saint Vincent was led by a match-high 19 kills from Maloney who hit .319 in the victory. Maloney closed out a strong night with a team-high 13 digs and added two service aces. Madison Gale led all players with 36 assists and Dez Brown added seven kills and a match-high five blocks.
Mount Saint Vincent finished the night with a 48-35 advantage in kills and a 7-6 edge in total team blocks. The Knights took the advantage in service aces on the night, 13-10.
Monday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 5-8 overall on the season and to 1-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights return to action on Tuesday when they play host to SUNY Delhi. The non-conference match at the Kaplan Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
