Knights Sweep Bard, Drop Five Set Heartbreaker To Hartwick

Cammarata hands out 53 assists on the day

Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches at Bard on Saturday, sweeping the Raptors by scores of 25-22, 27-25, 25-15 before dropping a five set decision to Hartwick by scores of 28-26, 14-25, 26-24, 16-25, 12-15. Freshman Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) and junior Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) each posted 16 kills on the day, while freshman Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) handed out 53 assists over the two matches.
 
Mount Saint Mary 3 – Bard 0
Senior Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) led the Mount's offensive attack against the Raptors, posting 10 kills, while committing just four errors. Burke finished off the match with four service aces, matching the team-high in the category.
 
Kralik continued her strong play with eight winners for the Mount and was one of a trio of players in double-figures in digs with 11. Danielle Guarasci (Plainview, N.Y.) posted five kills and two blocks in the win, while Renne Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) closed out the contest with four winners and nine digs for the Knights.
 
Cammarata started out her strong day with 20 assists for the Mount to go along with 12 digs, while Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) finished off a strong match with 25 digs and four service aces. Riddle picked up three aces and put away three kills in the win.
 
Bard was led by eight kills from Mikala L'Hote with Jewel Smith posting 15 assists and 11 digs. Emily Anastasi led the Raptors with 23 digs.
 
Mount Saint Mary finished the opening match of the day with a 31-18 advantage in kills and an 11-7 edge in aces, while total team blocks in the contest were even at 2-2. The Knights hit .068 in the contest, with Bard turning in a .026 effort.
 
Hartwick 3 – Mount Saint Mary 2
The Knights held 1-0 and 2-1 advantages in the match before Hartwick answered with convincing wins in the second and fourth frames. The Hawks went on to score three of the final five points in the fifth frame all on Mount Saint Mary miscues.
 
Riddle had a big match for the Knights, putting away 13 kills to go along with two aces, two assists, two blocks and seven digs. Kralik finished off a strong day with eight more winners, an ace and nine digs for Mount Saint Mary.
 
Burke chipped in with five kills and a pair of blocks, while Guarasci and Hydo each contributed four winners. Hydo finished off the match with two aces and six digs for the Mount.
 
Cammarata finished off the day with a career-high 33 assists for Mount Saint Mary, adding two kills, an ace and six digs. Barbara lifted a team-high 18 digs for the Knights with Klaire Wall (Point Pleasant, N.J.) lifting seven digs.
 
Hartwick received a match-high 14 kills from Colette Maloney who led three players with at least 10 kills in the match. She added four aces and finished off a double-double with 15 digs. Kaitlyn Ludder and Toria Betelak produced 12 and 10 kills, with Kayley Ericson handing out a match-high 41 assists. Katie Boak led all players and four Hawks with at least 10 digs with 19.
 
The Hawks finished the match with a 53-37 advantage in kills and controlled the service game 16-6 and the net with a 9-3 advantage in total team blocks.
 
Saturday's split moves Mount Saint Mary to 5-7 overall. Next up for the Knights is a trip to 2018 league champion the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Monday. First serve with the Dolphins is set for 7:00 p.m.
