Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team was dealt its third straight loss on Saturday, falling at home to visiting Union by a score of 2-0. In the defeat, sophomore
KellyAnn Platt (Staten Island, N.Y.) made four saves in goal.
The game was scoreless until the final 10 minutes of the opening stanza when the Dutchwomen struck with the eventual game winning goal. Bella Dworkin played a ball into the box that Mollie Boone snuck under Platt at 34:44 to give the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Over the opening 45 minutes, Union finished with a 7-2 advantage in shots, while the Mount took two of the three corner kicks in the opening frame. Platt posted two stops in the first half to keep the Knights to within a single shot.
Mount Saint Mary remained within a goal until the late stages of regulation time, when Union tacked on its second tally of the day. Emma Schleimer dribbled into the box and buried a shot to the far post at the 83:05 mark of the match to close out the scoring in the game.
Union recorded seven more shots in the second half to finish the day with a 14-8 edge in the category, including a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. Union used a 5-1 advantage in second half corner kicks to round out the win with a 6-3 advantage for the day.
Four different Knights finished the day with a shot on Saturday with
Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.),
Alexa Franceschi (Red Hook, N.Y.) and
Ashley Hunter (North Babylon, N.Y.) each recording one attempt.
Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.) led the way for the Mount with five shots, including three on goal.
Making her first start in goal, Platt posted four stops for the Knights, making a pair of saves in each half. Union keeper, Alison Sorkenn picked up the shutout with five saves, including four after halftime.
At 1-5 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary is off until September 21 when it travels to Vassar. Kick-off with the Brewers is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
