Women’s Soccer Topped At Montclair State

Scott makes six saves

Montclair, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team returned to the road on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a tough 2-0 decision at Montclair State. Junior goalkeeper Cyan Scott (Buena Park, Calif.) finished the day with six stops for the Mount.
 
The eventual game winning goal came in the 10th minute on Wednesday, when Lexington Wolf potted her first of the season at the 9:44 mark of the contest. She finished off a feed from Emily DeGeyter, knocking in the deciding tally to the left post.
 
From the time of the Montclair State goal until halftime, the Mount totaled one shot and a pair of corners, but could not find the tying goal.
 
The Red Hawks finished the opening 45 minutes with a 4-1 advantage in shots, while the Mount took four of the six first half corner kicks. Scott finished the first stanza with one save.
 
The game remained 1-0 until the late stages of the regulation when Montclair State tacked on an insurance tally. Gabby D'Emlio found the back of the net of a pass from Paige Yocum at 78:16 to send the Red Hawks to the final two-goal advantage.
 
Shots in the second half were even at 6-6, with the Mount taking four more corner kicks. The Knights forced Montclair State goalkeeper Phoebe Bledsoe to make two second half saves.
 
Junior Alexa Franceschi (Red Hook, N.Y.) finished the day with two shots for the Mount, with Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) and Ashley Hunter (North Babylon, N.Y.) recording the only two shots on goal for the Knights.
 
Scott made five saves after halftime on Wednesday, finishing the game one stop shy of her career-high. Bledsoe picked up the win and her second shutout of the season with her two second half stops.
 
Montclair State finished the day with the advantage in shots 10-7 overall and with the shot on goal advantage at 8-2. Mount Saint Mary controlled corner kicks in the game 8-3.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-4 overall on the season. Next up for the Mount is a home date with Union on Saturday. Kick-off at Kaplan Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
