Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) recorded her first three points of the season and freshman
Julia Accetura (Prospect, Conn.) scored her first career goal, but the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team dropped its finale at Roanoke Invitational to #11/20 Lynchburg by a score of 7-2 Sunday afternoon.
Lynchburg opened the scoring in the 19
th minute when Dana Seavey scored her first goal of the season to give the Hornets and early 1-0 advantage. Cannella answered the opening goal of the game with her first of the season at the 20:02 mark when she converted a penalty kick to even the score at 1-1.
The game remained tied 1-1 until the 32
nd minute when Taylor Stevens scored her first of the season to push Lynchburg in front 2-1 late in the first half. Averey Wyscarver added her first of two goals in the game in the 41
st minute to send the Hornets into the intermission with a 3-1 lead.
Lynchburg finished the opening 45 minutes with a 10-1 advantage in shots and took the only corner kick awarded before halftime. Mount Saint Mary junior
Cyan Scott (Buena Park, Calif.) made a pair of saves prior to the break for the Knights.
Coming out of the intermission, the Knights climbed to within a goal in the 52
nd minute when Accetura found the back of the net for the first time in her career. She finished off a feed from Cannella at the 51:28 mark of the contest to bring the Mount to within 3-2.
Lynchburg responded with the final four goals of the game, striking four times in the final 33 minutes. Emma Hiett gave the Hornets back a two-goal lead in the 57
th minute with Sarah Barnes finding the back of the net in the 72md minute to five Lynchburg a 5-2 lead. Wyscarver's second of the game and an Alyssa Damato goal in the closing second finished off the scoring in the game.
Cannella became the first Knight to score this season and moves into the team lead with three points, finishing with three shots in the game. Accetura scored on her only shot of the game with
Nicky Wurglics (Glendale, N.Y.) and
Gina Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.) each added a shot for the Mount.
Lynchburg showed five players with a goal and 10 players with at least one point. Wyscarver posted a pair of goals and an assist, with Stevens scoring a goal and helping on another.
Scott rounded out the day with seven saves for the Knights, while Caitlin Dorsch earned the win without making a save in 60:22 or work.
Overall, the Hornets held the advantage in shots 24-6, shots on goal 14-2 and corner kicks 4-2.
At 0-2 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary will begin Skyline Conference play on Friday when it welcomes Yeshiva to Kaplan Field. Kick-off with the Maccabees is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
