Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team was shutout on Friday evening as the Knights dropped a 2-0 non-conference contest to Vassar. Junior
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) made five saves in the loss for the Mount.
The first half was evenly matched from the two squads as neither team found the back of the net in the first half. The Knights held the only two shots on goal in the first half as
Joey Dolan (Highland, N.Y.) and
Joseph Bacalhau (Woodbridge, N.J.) each had shots turned away by Vassar goalkeeper Will Marment. The Mount held a 4-2 edge in shots in the first period.
Vassar found the scoreboard first as Henrik Olssen buried one in the back of the net after assists off of consecutive headers from Ethan Snyder and Alec Yeaney. The Knights best two opportunities in the second half came from
Jonathan Schefer (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and
Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) but Marment came up big again. The Brewers scored a second goal in the 90th minute on a long drive from Owen Fauth from midfield after intercepting a pass.
Vassar held a 11-5 advantage in shots in the second half as well as a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Dolan led the team in shots with two as eight different Knights recorded a shot on the night. Three players finished with two shots each for Vassar as Marment earned the win after making four saves in the win. The Brewers finished the night with a 13-9 advantage in shots as well as an 7-4 edge in shots on goal.
At 1-1 overall on the season, the Mount plays its season opener on Wednesday evening against Bard. Kick-off for the first game on the new turf at Kaplan Field is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
