Bronxville, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team won their 16
th straight Skyline Conference contest and extended their winning streak to 11 games as the Knights took care of Sarah Lawrence by a convincing score of 81-24. Seniors
Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and
Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) each scored 17 points to lead the Mount.
The Knights opened up the contest on 16-4 run as Cleare scored nine points in the first five minutes of the contest. The Mount finished the quarter with a 22-11 lead as
Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) netted five points and
Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) and
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) each knocked down a triple in the opening quarter.
The Mount followed the first quarter with another big run as they started the second period on a 16-2 run over the first eight minutes of the quarter. Limonta scored ten straight points in the quarter and Cleare added another four.
Cleare finished the first half with a double-double as she scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds while Limonta scored all ten of her first half points in the second quarter. The Knights finished the half shooting a modest 37.0-percent as a team and knocked down three triples. They held the Gryphons to 23.3-percent and outrebounded them 40-14, grabbing 19 offensive boards.
Once again, the Knights began the third stanza on a 15-0 run where Limonta scored her final seven points of the night. Cleare also scored her final six points of the contest in the third quarter.
The Mount outscored Sarah Lawrence 20-2 in the final quarter as
Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) scored 10 points in the period and
Gabriella Rafaniello (Brooklyn, N.Y.) poured in six points in the final quarter.
The Knights improved their shooting to 44.4-percent in the second half while limiting Sarah Lawrence to 11.1-percent and forced 20 turnovers in the half. The Mount outrebounded the Gryphons 27-12 and grabbed 13 offensive rebounds.
Cleare finished the night shooting 6-for-11 from the field on the night and scored her 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in only 19 minutes played. Limonta was 7-for-11 on the night and scored her 17 points in just 13 minutes on the floor. Bojka was 8-for-14 with 16 points in 20 minutes of action.
Smith chipped in eight points, a game-high six assists and four steals while Desrats dished out a career-high five assists in the contest.
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) ripped down nine boards and added three steals.
Camryn Davis had nine points, six rebounds and three assists for Sarah Lawrence as Emmamazy Prior added eight points and six boards and Kaylin Yamada chipped in seven points.
The Mount finished the contest shooting 40.2-percent and converted three three-pointers. They finished 12-for-22 from the free throw line. The Knights defense held the Gryphons to 18.8-percent shooting as a team and 2-for-10 from three-point range. Mount Saint Mary handed out 22 assists on 33 made field goals.
The Knights forced 28 turnovers and turned it into 26 points. The Mount converted 24 second chance points and outscored Sarah Lawrence 56-4 in points in the paint. The Mount also had 47 bench points, outrebounded the Gryphons 67-26 and grabbed 32 offensive rebounds in the contest.
Tonight's victory moves Mount Saint Mary to 19-4 overall and 16-0 in the Skyline Conference. The Mount is idle until Tuesday, February 12
th when they travel to Patchogue to take on St. Joseph's-L.I. Tip-off with the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
