Women’s Basketball Rolls Past St. Joseph’s-L.I., Win 12th In A Row

Cleare and Limonta lead the way with 14 points apiece

Patchogue, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team won their 12th straight contest as the Knights rolled past the Golden Eagles by a convincing score of 81-45. Seniors Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) led four double digit scorers with 14 points apiece.

The Knights opened up the contest on 14-5 run as Cleare rattled off nine points in the first five minutes of the contest. The Mount extended their lead to 10 by the end of the quarter as Cleare finished the quarter with 11 points.

A Limonta layup pushed the lead to a first half high of 19 and Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) knocked down triples as the Knights took a 36-17 lead into the halftime intermission.

Cleare finished the first half with 13 points, pulled down seven rebounds and blocked five shots while Smith and Limonta each added six points in the half. The Mount shot a blistering 44.1-percent and buried three triples. The Golden Eagles were held to 21.2-percent from the field and the Knights grabbed nine offensive rebounds in the half.

The Knights jumped out in the third stanza on a 11-2 run where Smith poured in a quick five points and Limonta scored four more. Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) netted seven consecutive points over a two-minute stretch in the third quarter as the Mount lead ballooned to 31.

Julia Lavin (Ledyard, Conn.) rattled off a career-high 10 points in the fourth quarter and Kassidy Hallum (Lake Grove, N.Y.) scored back to back buckets as the Knights cruised to 36-point victory.

The Knights continued their hot shooting in the second half as they shot 52.6-percent in the second half and knocked down five threes. The Mount grabbed 12 more offensive rebounds in the half and only turned the ball over four times in the half.

Cleare finished the night shooting 6-for-12 from the field on the night and scored her 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds in only 17 minutes played. She also finished with a career-high six blocks. Limonta was an efficient 7-for-9 on the night and finished with a 14 point and 10 rebound double-double in 19 minutes.

Smith finished with 10 points and three assists on a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and Lavin finished 4-for-7 with 10 points and two steals. Keenan chipped in nine points and six rebounds as Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) added eight rebounds.

Alyssa Signor poured in 18 points to lead the Golden Eagles and N'Dea Maddox added 12 points and three assists. Signor added five rebounds and Alicia Indence chipped in six points and four assists.

The Mount finished the contest shooting 48.6-percent and converted eight three-pointers. The Knights defense held the Golden Eagless to 30.0-percent shooting as a team and 6-for-20 from three-point range. Mount Saint Mary handed out 17 assists on 35 made field goals.

The Mount outscored the Golden Eagles in points off turnovers 18-10 and converted 22 second chance points. The Knights outscored St. Joseph's-L.I. 40-12 in points in the paint and also had 43 bench points. Mount Saint Mary outrebounded St. Joseph's-L.I. 51-26 and grabbed 21 offensive rebounds

Tonight's victory moves Mount Saint Mary to 20-4 overall and 17-0 in the Skyline Conference. Next up for the Knights is the regular season finale against United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon. Senior day tip-off with the Mariners is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Kaplan Center.
