Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team begins play in the 2019 Skyline Conference Championship on Wednesday afternoon when it welcomes fourth seed Farmingdale State to Kaplan Field for a semifinal round matchup. Kick-off with the Rams is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those unable to attend.
At A Glance: The Mount enters Wednesday's semifinal as the top seed after completing the regular season with a 13-5-1 overall record and an unbeaten 10-0-1 mark in conference play. The Knights went 10-1-1 in their final 12 regular season contests, including a 3-2 win in double overtime over St. Joseph's-L.I. in the regular season finale to wrap up the top spot in the championship.
Sophomore
Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) leads the offensive attack for the Mount with 14 goals and 31 points, while senior
Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) checks in with 12 tallies and 28 points. Sophomore
Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) is in the midst of a strong season, entering Wednesday's semifinal with 23 points on the strength of ten goals and three assists. The trio atop the team leaderboard in points have combined for nine of the team's 13 game winning goals, with Dolan potting five and Doyle and Wyant each adding two.
In all, the Mount has had 10 different players find the scoring column to date, with five players totaling at least two tallies. Junior
Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.) and freshman
Peter Ramirez (Newburgh, N.Y.) are tied for the team lead with six assists. Dolan has tallied four assists to date and Doyle and Wyant have each registered three helpers.
Junior
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) has started 17 games of the 19 games in goal for the Mount and has played 1,470:45 of a possible 1,740:45. He has made 72 saves to date and holds a 1.22 goals against average and a .783 save percentage to go along with three shutouts.
Last Time Out: The Mount wrapped up the regular season with a 3-2 (2OT) road win over St. Joseph's-L.I. on October 29. Doyle evened the score at 2-2 in the middle stages of the second half and sent the Mount to a victory with a winner in the first minute of the second overtime period.
Dolan opened the scoring for the Knights in 53rd minute when he potted a rebound off the cross bar to give the Mount a 1-0 lead at the 52:43 mark of the contest.
With his two goals, Doyle pushed his team lead in markers to 14 and his team standard in points to 31. Dolan scored for the 12th time in 2019 and pushed his point total to 28, while Wyant collected his third assist of the season and moved his point total on the year to 23.
Rapp earned the win in goal of the Mount with four saves, including three in the second stanza.
Scouting The Rams: Fourth seed Farmingdale State is coming off a 1-0 win over Old Westbury in the First Round of the Championship on Saturday. Bryan Argueta recorded an unassisted goal from 15 yards out to the right corner of the net to put the Rams on top, 1-0 in the 27th minute to move the Rams to semifinal and improve their overall record to 10-10.
Farmingdale State features a balanced scoring attack that sees Chris Schmidt leading with eight goals and Carlos Rivera adding seven tallies. Argueta and Chapoteau have each added six goals for the Rams.
Schmidt leads the team with 18 points, adding two assists to his goal total, with Rivera talling 17 points. Argueta and Chapoteau are tied for third on the squad with 13 points apiece.
In goal, Justin Silva has seen the bulk of time, playing in 19 contest and playing 1,540:38 of a possible 1,835:39. He has stopped 76 opponent shots and holds a 1.52 goals against average and a .745 save percentage.
Regular Season Meeting: Doyle picked up his conference leading 11th goal of the season and Mesoraca picked up two assists as the Mount won its sixth straight contest in a 3-1 road victory on October 15.
The Mount finished the game outshot 17-13 in shots, including 8-7 in shots on goal after outshooting Farmingdale 6-5 in the first half. The Rams had the only two corner kicks of the game, both of which came in the first 45 minutes.
Doyle led the Knights in shots with three as Wyant registered two shots on the evening. Mesoraca's two assists push him into a tie for the team lead in assists with five for the year. Bryan Argueta led the Rams in shots with five, including four shots on target.
Rapp earned the win in goal on October 15 as he made seven saves, including five in the second half.
What's At Stake: The winner of Wednesday's semifinal will advance to the Skyline Conference Championship Final on Saturday to take on the winner of the Manhattanville and Maritime semifinal winner.
