Men's Soccer Wins Sixth Straight, Triumphs Over Farmingdale State

Doyle scores his league leading 11th goal

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Sophomore Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) picked up his conference leading 11th goal of the season and junior Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.) picked up two assists as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team won its sixth straight contest in a 3-1 road victory over Farmingdale State on Tuesday evening.

The Rams offense started right out of the gate as Brayan Cruz banged a shot off the post just 49 seconds into the game. Ismael Bravo (Middletown, N.Y.) and Jonathan Schefer (Greenlawn, N.Y.) then each had shots turned away for the Mount in the first six minutes.

At the 16:42 mark of the first half, Mesoraca played a long ball into the box as Doyle's head found it for his conference and team leading 11th goal of the season. Then after a Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) save in the 21st minute, Mesoraca played another ball into the box off a free kick and senior Joey Dolan (Highland, N.Y.) was left alone as he headed the ball into the top left corner. His ninth goal of the season came at the 26:02 mark of the first half.

Sophomore Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) increased the Knights lead to three after halftime as he found the back of the net in the 65th minute. His ninth goal of the season was scored at the 64:36 mark of the second half. Farmingdale's lone goal came in the 83rd minute when Chris Schmidt scored off a feed from Robert Anastasio.

The Mount finished the game outshot 17-13 in shots, including 8-7 in shots on goal after outshooting Farmingdale 6-5 in the first half. The Rams had the only two corner kicks of the game, both of which came in the first 45 minutes.

Doyle led the Knights in shots with three as both Bravo and Wyant each registed two shots on the evening. Mesoraca's two assists push him into a tie for the team lead in assists with five for the year. Bryan Argueta led the Rams in shots with five, including four shots on target.

Rapp earned the win in goal on Tuesday night as he made seven saves, including five in the second half. Justin Silva took the loss in goal for Farmingdale State as he made four saves on the evening.

At 10-4-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the Skyline Conference, the Knights are off until October 22 when they host Skyline rival United States Merchant Marine Academy. Kick-off with the Mariners is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Kaplan Field.
