Men's Soccer Shutouts USMMA For Seventh Straight Win

Dolan scores the lone goal for the Knights

Newburgh, N.Y. - Senior Joey Dolan (Highland, N.Y.) scored his 10th goal of the season in the first half as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer tema completed a 1-0 shutout of the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday night at Kaplan Field.

Early in the first half, there was very little offense occurring for both teams as the first shot was not registered until the 16th minute when Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) turned away Matt McCurnin's shot. The Knights goal came in the 24th minute when Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) played a ball through from the midfield to Dolan who buried it past the keeper to give the Mount an early lead.

Merchant Marine held a 4-2 shots edge in the first half while the Mount earned the corner kicks advantage at 3-1. Rapp made all three of his saves on the day in the first 45 minutes.

The offense increased in the second half as both teams combined for 15 total shots but neither team could find the back of the net. The Mount's best chances came when Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) rang one off the post at the 65:15 mark and Johnny Mesnick (Beacon, N.Y.) also banged one off the post at the 73:33 mark.

Doyle led the Mount in shots on the night with three as Wyant added two shots on the evening. Alex Madonna registered six shots for USMMA as each team finished with three shots on goal.

Rapp picked up the shutout victory for the night as he finished with three saves on the evening. Matthew Milner took the tough luck loss as he made two saves for Merchant Marine.

At 11-4-1 overall and 8-0-1 in Skyline play, the Knights return to action at home on Thursday night when Purchase comes to Newburgh. Kick-off with the Panthers at Kaplan Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
