Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team won its eighth straight game on Thursday night as the Knights defeated Purchase 4-1. Four different players tallied a goal on the evening for the Mount.
Mount Saint Mary scored its first goal of the night on its first shot of the night as
Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) scored his conference-leading 12th goal of the season on a feed from
Joey Dolan (Highland, N.Y.) at the 10:37 mark of the first half. In the 29th minute, Purchase countered with a goal of its own as Colman Cassidy banged one off the right post and in to tie the game at one apiece.
Dolan scored his 11th goal of the season at the 40:23 mark of the first half when he scored off a free kick from 35 yards out as he wired it in the top right corner. The eventual game-winning goal gave the Knights a 2-1 lead at the half. The Mount outshot Purchase 7-4 in the first 45 minutes and owned all three corner kicks.
After
Matt Wyant's penalty kick attempt rang off the post, the Knights quickly found the back of the net in the 57th minute when Wyant buried a rebound off the crossbar on a shot from
Peter Ramirez (Newburgh, N.Y.). Wyant's 10th goal of the season was scored at the 56:38 mark of the second half.
Mount Saint Mary's fourth goal of the evening came in the 89th minute when
Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.) passed a ball in the box to
Anthony Guglielmo (Setauket, N.Y.) who quickly crossed it to
Matthew Iaria (Suffern, N.Y.), scoring his second goal of the season.
The Mount outshot the Panthers 16-4 in the second half, finishing with a 23-8 edge in shots and 13-4 in shots on goal. Doyle registered five shots on the night for the Knights as Wyant and Dolan each recorded four shots. Cassidy led the way for Purchase in shots as he finished with three on the night.
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) earned the victory in goal for Mount Saint Mary as he made three stops on the night to increase his conference-leading save percentage to .791 and lower his GAA to 1.18. Mario Olmedo took the loss in net for Purchase as he made nine saves on the night.
Thursday's victory moves the Knights to 12-4-1 and 9-0-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for Mount Saint Mary is the regular season home finale against NYU on Saturday afternoon. The non-conference contest with the Violets is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Kaplan Field.
