Men's Soccer Winning Streak Snapped At Eight

Knights shutout for the first time since September 17

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team's winning streak was snapped at eight games on Saturday afternoon as the Knights dropped a 4-0 contest to non-conference foe NYU.

The Mount struggled from the onset on Saturday as the Violets got on the board early when Santiago Huertas curled a shot in from just outside the box in the 3rd minute. Huertas scored at the 2:45 mark on a feed from Maxi Rodriquez. NYU's second goal came at the 31:07 mark of the first half when Evan Lewis scored after he dribbled in from the midfield.

The Violets lead increased to three before the end of the first half when Vince Bulzoni scored off a rebound after Matteo Russo banged a free kick shot off the crossbar. NYU outshot the Knights 7-5 in the first 45 minutes and the two corner kicks of the first half.

The Violets fourth goal of the contest was scored at the 64 minute mark when Talal Said scored off a pass from Ben Green off a passing play in the midfield. NYU finished the half outshooting the Mount 4-2 as the Knights held a 3-1 corner kicks edge.

Joey Dolan (Highland, N.Y.) led the Knights in shots with three as Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) added two shots. Seven different players recorded a point for NYU.

Sean Madden (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) took the loss in goal for the Knights as he played the first 45 minutes before being replaced by J.C. Varrasi (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) in the second half. Luca Mancuso picked up the win for the Violets as he made one save in 45 minutes of action and Nick Vafiadis made one save in relief in the second half.

At 12-5-1 overall, the Mount plays its final regular season contest on the road against St. Joseph's-L.I. on Tuesday. Kick-off with the Golden Eagles in Patchogue is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
