Dolan's Double Overtime Winner Sends Mount Saint Mary To The Skyline Conference Championship Final

Senior scores game-winner with 57 seconds left in double OT

Newburgh, N.Y. - Senior Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal with 55 seconds remaining in double overtime as the top-seeded Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team won a 2-1 thriller over fourth seeded Farmingdale State on Wednesday evening. The victory ties the program's single season wins record and sends the Knights to the Skyline Conference Championship final on Saturday afternoon.

The Mount got on the board early as sophomore Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) played a free kick in the box from 45 yards out and found the head of senior Jonathan Schefer (Greenlawn, N.Y.) in the 3rd minute. Schefer's first goal of the season came at the 2:25 mark of the first half.

Dolan had a strong chance to double the lead in the 16th minute but Rams goalkeeper Justin Silva came up with a strong save. Shots were even at four apiece in the first half while corner kicks were even at one after the first 45 minutes.

Farmingdale State drew even in the second half when Bryan Argueta dribbled a ball in from the midfield and buried a strong shot past the keeper in the 67th minute. The goal was Argueta's seventh of the season at the 66:19 mark.

The Rams outshot Mount Saint Mary 11-2 in the second half and held the only corner kick of the half. Junior goalkeeper Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) made five saves in the second half.

Peter Ramirez (Newburgh, N.Y.) had a strong chance to clinch the victory in the first overtime but his shot just narrowly scooted through the box for the Knights. Alec Chapoteau had the lone chance for the Rams in the second half but he was turned away by Rapp. The Knights outshot the Rams 3-1 in the first overtime period.

With just over a minute remaining in the second overtime, Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) played a header off a free kick from Wyant but Farmingdale's defender made a crucial save to keep the game tied. After a scramble for the ball, Schefer played a cross into the box as Ramirez fed the ball to Dolan who buried it in the bottom left corner of the net to send the Knights to the Skyline final.

The goal came at the 109:05 mark of the second overtime and it was Dolan's 13th of the season. The assist by Ramirez was his seventh of the season and he now holds the team lead in assists with seven on the season.

Dolan and Ramirez led the Knights in shots with three each as Schefer finished the night with three points. Argueta led Farmingdale State in shots with six as Robert Anastasio registered three shots for the Rams.

Rapp picked up the victory in goal for Mount Saint Mary as he made six saves on the night. Silva took the tough loss for Farmingdale State as he made four stops on the evening.

The Rams finished with an 18-11 edge in shots on the contest while shots on goal were even at seven. Farmingdale State held a 2-1 corner kicks edge on the night.

Next up for top-seeded Mount Saint Mary is the Skyline Conference Championship Final against sixth-seeded Maritime on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off time with the Privateers is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
