Newburgh, N.Y. - The top-seeded Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss in double overtime to sixth seeded Maritime in the Skyline Conference Championship Final on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Field. Freshman

The Mount got on the board early in the first half when Lopez headed one past the keeper off a corner kick from
Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) in the 4th minute. The goal was Lopez's first of the season and it came at the 3:53 mark of the first half. Maritime evened the scoreboard in the 20th minute when Thomas Kropp scored his first goal of the season on a rebound off James Roland's shot off the crossbar.
Just two minutes later, Maritime took its first lead of the contest when Christopher Tavernese fired a shot to the top right corner at the 21:14 mark of the first half. Mount Saint Mary quickly responded just one minute later after Ramirez scored his third goal of the season on a rebound off
Joseph Mesoraca's (Oceanside, N.Y.) header off the crossbar.
The Mount outshot the Privateers 12-3 in a frantic first half as well as held the edge in corner kicks at 6-1. Each team made one save over the first 45 minutes.
Neither team could gain the advantage in the second half as both keepers were up to the task. Junior goalkeeper
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) made three saves in the last seven minutes of the half. The Privateers held a 6-4 edge in shots in the second half while the Mount had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
In the first overtime, the Mount had the first opportunity to end the contest when
Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) fired a shot toward the near post but Maritime goalie Michael Rodriquez made a great save to extend the game. Frank Schmidt had the next chance for Maritime as his header glanced off the crossbar and over the net.
The Privateers game-winner came in the 106th minute when a goal kick was played into the midfield and was intercepted by John Kilmeade who fed Schmidt who sent Maritime to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2011.
Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Dolan led the Knights in shots with five each while Schmidt led the Privateers with four. Rodriquez earned the win for Maritime as he made three saves on the day. Rapp took the loss for Mount Saint Mary as he made three stops.
The Mount finished the game outshooting Maritime 23-11 but the Privateers held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. The Knights held a 11-2 edge in corner kicks on the day.
Saturday's loss pushes the Knights to 14-6-1 on the season.
