New York, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team earned its second win of the season on Thursday night as the Knights dominated Skyline foe Yeshiva 101-54 on the road. Sophomore
Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) led five double-digit scorers for the Mount with a career-high 23 points in the victory. The 101 points scored is the most since the 2017-18 season when Mount Saint Mary scored 104 points in a victory over Sarah Lawrence.
Junior
Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) scored the first four points of the game on back-to-back layups before Yeshiva got on the board. After a back and forth beginning to the first quarter, Yuval Nitzan made two free throws to tie the score at eight with three and a half minutes to go.
The Maccabees pushed its lead up to five points after a Jessie Orgel three-pointer with 2:07 remaining in the quarter. The Knights ended the quarter on an 8-0 run on five points from
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) and three from Bojka.
The Knights extended its lead to seven points early in the second quarter after two free throws from
Julia Lavin (Ledyard, Conn.). With 5:21 remaining in the quarter,
Kaitlyn Wolff's (Holtsville, N.Y.) layup pushed the Mount's lead to double digits for the first time in the contest. After two free throws from Orgel, the Knights concluded the second half on a 20-7 run, including 13 points from
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.).
Mount Saint Mary shot 40.9 percent in the first half while Yeshiva shot 42.3 percent. Desrats led the Mount in points with 13 while Tabasco added 11, in addition to three assists. Keenan ripped down nine rebounds in the half.
After the Knights pushed the lead to 22 points early in the third quarter, Yeshiva went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 12 with five minutes remaining in the quarter. A
Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) layup ended the Maccabees run and ignited a 20-9 run, capped by a Desrats three pointer, to end the quarter to give the Mount a 23 point lead.
Mount Saint Mary concluded the second half with a 25-4 run during the final quarter, including 15 points from Keenan. The Knights shot 41.4 percent in the second half and limited Yeshiva to 30.4 percent, including the Maccabees being held without a field goal in the fourth quarter.
Keenan finished the contest with a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds while Pace added 19 points and nine rebounds. Desrats chipped in 18 points, Bojka added 15 points and Tabasco scored 13 points, added a team-high four assists and eight rebounds.
Teigman poured in 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Maccabees while Orgel added 11 points. Lindsay Brandwein grabbed six rebounds for Yeshiva.
Mount Saint Mary finished the contest shooting 41.2 percent from the field and made nine threes. Yeshiva was limited to just under 37 percent from the field and only three three pointers. The Mount grabbed 21 offensive rebounds and outrebounded the Maccabees 53-42.
The Knights converted 39 points off 36 Yeshiva turnovers and outscored the Maccabees 48-26 in the paint. Mount Saint Mary also converted 24 second chance points.
At 2-1 overall and 2-0 in Skyline play, the Mount will return home for its home opener against Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off with the Valiants is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
