Dallas, Pa. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team was handed its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon following a 68-60 loss at the hands of Misericordia. Junior
Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) led three Knights in double-figures with 17 points.
The Knights were outscored in the first three periods by the Cougars and after falling behind 54-36 through three quarters used a late fourth quarter comeback that came up short. After trailing by seven after 10 minutes, the Mount shot just 18.8-percent in the second period to fall behind 38-21 at halftime.
The Mount fell behind by as many as 20 points in the third frame and could never climb closer than 15 points in the frame. The Knights found themselves down by 22 points in the opening minute of the final stanza and would not get the deficit under 15 points until a
Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) triple brought the Mount to within 66-54 with 1:41 left to play.
Mount Saint Mary got its deficit under double-figures with 55 ticks left on a
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) triple and pulled to within the final eight-point disadvantage on a Bojka lay-in with just 12 seconds left in the contest.
Bojka led the Mount in scoring for the second straight outing, finishing the day 7-for-9 from the floor with a three-pointer. Pace chipped in 14 points, knocking down a trio of triples, and added five rebounds and four assists. Desrats reached double-figures for the first time with 10 points, contributing three rebounds and two assists.
Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) led the Knights with six rebounds on the afternoon with
Gabriella Rafaniello (Brooklyn, N.Y.),
Kaitlyn Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) each hauling down five caroms.
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) led the Mount with three steals.
Tessa Zamolyi led four players in double-figures for Misericordia with 13 points, closing a double-double with 11 rebounds. Erica Haefele and Alyssa Bondi each scored 12 points, with Gianna Delfino producing 11 points.
Mount Saint Mary closed the game shooting 36.1-percent overall and 32.0-percent from three-point range. The Cougars converted at 40.3-percent overall and outrebounded the Knights 49-33 overall and 16-11 on the offensive end, leading to a 17-8 edge in second chance scoring.
At 1-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary returns to Skyline Conference play on November 21 when it travels to Yeshiva. Tip-off with the Maccabees is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
