Riverdale, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team won its third straight contest on Saturday afternoon as the Knights defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent 2-1 on the road. Sophomore
Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) scored both first half goals for the Mount.
The Knights found some early chances as
Matt Flanagan's (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) shot in the 3rd minute was turned away by Dolphins keeper Padelis Astrinidis. In a frantic 45 second period of time,
Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) had a shot saved, Doyle hit the post and
Peter Ramirez (New Windsor, N.Y.) missed wide during a strong opportunity.
The Mount cashed in a chance in the 22nd minute when Doyle got his head on a feed from
Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.) to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Doyle's goal was his eighth of the year and pushed him into the team lead for goals.Â
Seven minutes later, Doyle tallied his second goal of the contest on an assist from
Joey Dolan (Highland, N.Y.). His ninth goal of the season came at the 30:05 mark. Mount Saint Mary finished the first half with a shots advantage of 12 to 8 as corner kicks were even at one.
Early in the second half, Mount Saint Vincent cut the lead in half when Mauricio Ricalde headed a cross from Sory Konate in 48th minute. Neither team could find the back of the net in the final 42 minutes as
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) turned away Santiago Ferrer's shot in the 89th minute to secure the Knights third straight win.
The Knights finished the second half with a 5-3 shots edge to finish with a 17-11 advantage for the game. Shots on goal were even at eight in the contest as corner kicks finished in favor of Mount Saint Vincent 3-2.
Doyle finished the game with five shots in the game as Wyant and
Jonathan Schefer (Greenlawn, N.Y.) each tallied three shots for the Knights. Ferrer finished with four shots for the Dolphins and Ricalde added three shots.
Rapp earned the victory in goal as he made seven saves for the Mount. Astrinidis finished with six saves in the tough luck loss for Mount Saint Vincent.
At 7-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 in Skyline Conference play, Mount Saint Mary returns to action at Kaplan Field on Wednesday evening when the Knights take on Maritime. Kick-off with the Privateers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
