Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) and junior
Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) combined for 24 kills as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team rattled off a 25-15, 25-13, 25-12 sweep over Old Westbury on Thursday night. The win clinched the sixth seed for the Mount in the Skyline Conference tournament.
The Knights raced out to an early 5-1 lead in the first set as senior
Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) buried two kills and combined for a block with classmate
Emily Mazzurco (Middletown, N.Y.). Mount Saint Mary pulled out in front 14-6 after a kill from Kralik and then ended the set from another Kralik kill. The Knights hit .138 in the first set and limited Old Westbury to -.161.
The Mount rattled off seven straight points early in the second set as Mazzurco had back-to-back service aces along with a kill from Riddle. Kralik then had five kills in a six point stretch for Mount Saint Mary to push the lead to 16-5. After the Panthers brought the lead back to 22-13, Kralik rattled off two more kills and
Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) finished the set with an ace.
Once again, the Knights rattled off a strong start, taking an 8-2 lead in the third set.
Klaire Wall (Point Pleasant, N.J.) and
Shannon Grogan (Levittown, N.Y.) combined for five straight kills for the Mount as the Knights completed the sweep. Mount Saint Mary hit a blistering .481 in the final stanza and held Old Westbury to a -.024 attack percentage for the game.
Riddle finished the night with 14 kills for the Mount as Kralik buried 12 winners on the night. Mazzurco led the team in assists with 17 on the night and
Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) dished out 14 helpers. Barbara and Wall each had nine digs apiece for the Knights.
Joelle Desrosiers lead the Panthers with 11 kills as Ally Parker handed out 14 assists. Daesha Garrison finished with eight digs for Old Westbury. Mount Saint Mary finished the evening hitting .338 and held the aces advantage at 7-2.
At 13-16 overall and 6-5 in the Skyline Conference, the Knights have clinched the sixth seed and will play the third seeded College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday evening in the first round of the Skyline Conference Championship. First serve with the Dolphins in Riverdale is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
