Women's Soccer Overwhelms St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

Knights outshoot the Bears 50-0

Newburgh, N.Y. - Juniors Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) and Allie Salamone (Sound Beach, N.Y.) each scored their first goal of the season as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team completed a dominating 3-0 victory over conference foe St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Tuesday evening.

The Knights dominated from the beginning whistle on Tuesday as the Mount peppered the Bears goal but could not find any traction in the first 32 minutes. Bornstad finally put Mount Saint Mary on the board in the 33rd minute when she received a short pass from Nikki Carter (Southington, Conn.) inside the box. Bornstad's first goal of the 2019 campaign came at the 32:30 mark.

The Mount outshot St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 30-0 in the first half and had all eight corner kicks of the first 45 minutes. The Bears goalkeeper, Reem Shaban, made nine saves in the half.

Mount Saint Mary doubled its lead in the second half when Salamone headed one past the keeper off a corner kick from Bornstad in the 64th minute. Her first goal of the season came at the 63:36 mark. Just two minutes later, senior Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) scored her team-leading 18th goal of the season when she corralled a loose ball in the midfield and dribbled into the box to bury it in the back of the net at the 65:55 mark.

The Knights finished the second half with a 20-0 shots advantage and ended the contest with a 50-0 shots edge. The Mount had nine more corner kicks in the half and finished with a 17-0 edge in that department. Bornstad finished the evening with a team-high eight shots as Cannella and Alexa Franceschi (Red Hook, N.Y.) each had six shots.

Cyan Scott (Buena Park, Calif.) picked up her eighth win of the season as she pitched a shutout in net for the Knights. Shaban finished the evening with 14 saves in the loss for the Bears.

Boxscore with all of the stats from this evening will be posted when they become available.

Tuesday's win pushes the Knights to 8-9-1 overall and 8-0-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for Mount Saint Mary is the season finale at home against St. Joseph's-L.I. tomorrow night. Kick-off with the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Kaplan Field.
