Knights Have Unbeaten Streak Stopped By #2 William Smith

Knights falter for first time since September 29

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team suffered its first loss since September 29 and had its six match unbeaten streak stopped following a 6-0 loss by visiting #2 William Smith Sunday afternoon. Junior Cyan Scott (Buena Park, Calif.) finished the day with seven saves in goal.

The Herons broke the game open with two goals in just under two minutes early in the opening half and tallied four times prior to the intermission on Sunday. Sheila McQuillen got the eventual game winning goal in the 12th minute off a feed from Julia Keogh, before Keogh found the back of the net in the 14th minute, finishing off an assist from Mariah Deschino.

Later in the half William Smith added two more goals, tallying twice in the final 12 minutes of the opening stanza. Seneca Blakely-Armitage pushed the Herons' advantage to three goals at the 33:00 mark of the contest before Katrine Berg finished off the first half scoring at the 41:16 mark of the tilt.

William Smith finished the first half with a 12-0 advantage in shots and took each of the three corner kicks in the first stanza. Scott finished a busy first 45 minutes with four stops for the Knights.

Coming out of halftime, the Herons struck twice more to post their second 6-0 win of the weekend. Berg closed out a five-point game with her second goal of the game in the 67th minute with Sarah Gray finding the scoring column in the 79th minute.

William Smith showed five different goal scorers in the win and had three separate players round out the day with a goal and an assist.

Scott wrapped up the day two saves shy of her season-high, making three more stops in the second half on Sunday. William Smith used a pair of keepers, with Amanda Kesler and Justine Pearson not forced to make a stop in the game.

Mount Saint Mary was outshot in the contest 21-0 with William Smith holding a 13-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Herons also held the advantage in corner kicks 7-1.
