Newburgh, N.Y. – Senior
Chrissy Cannella (Newburgh, N.Y.) scored in her sixth straight game and evened the score in the closing minutes as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with visiting Farmingdale State on Thursday afternoon.
Farmingdale State opened the scoring early in regulation time, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the 12
th minute. Meagan Murdocco finished off a pretty passing play off a restart from Emily Zeblisky and Edasia Martinez at 11:28 for the early one goal advantage.
The Rams' marker was the only tally of the first half, with Farmingdale State holding a slim 3-2 advantage in shots at the intermission.
Cyan Scott (Buena Park, Calif.) made a pair of first half stops to keep the Mount to within a single shot.
The visitors maintained the one goal edge until the 83
rd minute when Cannella got the Mount back on even terms. She snuck home a crossing pass off the foot of
Gina Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.) at 82:46 to knot the score at 1-1.
Farnmingdale State took the only two shots of the first overtime period, with both shots fading high. The Rams had their best look of extra time early in the second overtime period, but Scott denied Zeblisky in the 101
st minute. The Mount's best chance in the overtimes came off the foot of Rivera, who just missed the top right corner at the 109:09 mark of the tilt.
Rivera led the Knights with four shots on Thursday, with
Alexa Franceschi (Red Hook, N.Y.) adding a pair of attempts. Cannella, who pushed her team lead in goals to 17, and
Miranda Fennessy (Monroe, N.Y.) each finished with one shot apiece for the Knights.
Scott continued her strong play for the Knights, finishing with five stops on Thursday. Her performance against the Rams moved her goals against average to 1.62 on the season and her save percentage to .696. Daniella Ford wrapped up the draw with a trio of stops for the Rams.
Farmingdale State finished the day with a slim 10-8 advantage in overall shots and a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks also went to the Rams by a 4-3 margin.
With the Thursday's draw the Mount is unbeaten in its last six outings and moves to 7-8-1 overall on the season and to 7-0-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a home date with #2/4 William Smith on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
