Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team picked up its second win of the season on Wednesday with a 1-0 road win at Bard. The Knights tallied on a Raptors' own goal, while keeper
Jakup Myrtja (Ulcinj, Montenegro) picked up his second shutout of the season with five saves.
The game was scoreless until the 70
th minute when the only goal of the game came off the foot of a Bard defender. After
Matt Flanagan (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) made a run down the wing and crossed the ball into the box, Bard's Sid Subramani tried to deflect the ball out of bounds and put it into his own goal for the lone tally of the game.
Mount Saint Mary finished with seven of the 10 shots in the second half and rounded out the game with a 12-7 advantage in the category, including a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. The Knights dominated corner kicks, 7-2 in the contest.
Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) led the Knights with four shots with
Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.) and
Bereket Watts (Addis Abuba, Etheopia) each finishing with two attempts.
Myrtja recorded his second shutout in three starts in 2018. He moved to 2-1 on the season with a 1.49 goals against average and moved his save percentage to .750. Bard keeper, Logan Leppo, finished the tilt with six stops for the Raptors.
At 2-1 on the season, Mount Saint Mary will travel to Alfred, N.Y. for two games at the Alfred University Tournament starting on Saturday. The Knights open the event against Keuka at 1:00 p.m.
