Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team closed out a three match home stand on Saturday with a 6-0 Skyline Conference win over Sarah Lawrence. Junior
Theresa Stinson (Troy, N.Y.) scored twice as the Mount won its third straight contest.
Mount Saint Mary broke through in the 26
th minute against the Gryphons and scored three times in the final 19:58 of the opening frame on its way to a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Alexa Franceschi (Red Hook., N.Y.) scored her second goal of the season at the 25:02 with the eventual game winner with
Emma Costa (Rocky Point, N.Y.) following just over 90 seconds later with her first of the season. Stinson scored her first of the game with just under 10 minutes left before halftime.
The Knights went into halftime with a 9-3 advantage in shots and took two of the three corner kicks over the opening 45 minutes.
Coming out of halftime, the Knights got back on the board when Stinson finished off her second of the game at the 48:43 mark of the match.
Gina Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.) got into the scoring column with her team leading sixth goal in the 56
th minute before
Julie Roethel (Monroe, N.Y.) scored her first goal as a Knight at the 70:21 mark of the contest.
The Knights featured five different players with a goal in the game and had six players with an assist, including Franceschi who posted a goal and a helper for the Knights.
Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) assisted on Roethel's tally, picking up her team leading fourth helper of the year.
Sophomore
Cassidy Rykowski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) earned the shutout win for the Mount on Saturday, making three saves in the contest. Her counterpart from Sarah Lawrence, Madison Mertsch, made seven stops for the Gryphons.
The Mount rounded out the day with an 18-6 advantage in shots, including a 13-3 bulge in shots on goal. Corner kicks went to the Knights on the day, 5-4.
At 6-4-1 overall on the season and 2-0-0 in Skyline Conference play, Mount Saint Mary travels to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. kick-off with the Dolphins.
