Teaneck, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team snapped a four game winless streak, rebounding against Yeshiva on Sunday with a dominating 9-0 victory in its Skyline Conference opener.
The Knights pulled off hat tricks by two different players in the game.
Theresa Stinson (Troy, N.Y.) was the first one to achieve the hat trick, scoring three consecutive goals. She scored in the 51
st, 54
th, and the 63
rd minutes.
Gina Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.) was the other Knight to conquer the feat. She scored the first goal and the eventual game-winner in the 26
th minute and followed up with goals in the 73
rd and 79
th minute.
Claire Newman (Cromwell, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season for Mount Saint Mary and both
Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) and
Nikki Carter (Southington, Conn.) also put one in the back of net.
Miranda Fennessy (Monroe, N.Y.) had two assists and
Emma Costa (Rocky Point, N.Y.) picked up one in the victory.
Rivera finished with eight points on the night (3 goals, 2 assists), Stinson finished with six points (3 goals) and Newman finished with three points (1 goal, 1 assist). In all the Mount showed seven players with at least one point in the win.
Cassidy Rykowski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) started the night in net and played the first half, earning the victory.
Taylor Moreau (New Windsor, N.Y.) made her debut for the Knights in the second half and made a save on Yeshiva's lone shot on goal.
Mount Saint Mary held a shots advantage of 57-1 and a shot on goal advantage of 33-1. The Knights also held the corner kicks advantage, 15-0.
At 3-3-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary travels to Ithaca to take on the Bombers on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
