Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team suffered its second loss of the season on Wednesday, falling by a 4-1 score against the Montclair State Red Hawks.
Gina Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.) netted the lone goal from the penalty spot in the 59
th minute for the Knights.
The Red Hawks started the scoring early as Madison Martino buried her first goal of the season in the 13
th minute. Emily Beenders was the star for Montclair State, scoring in 20
th, 76
th and 79
th minute to secure the hat trick. Beenders now leads the team in points with 13. Michaela Knobloch assisted on two of the Beenders' goals.
Montclair State outshot the Knights, 12-4, also holding the corner kicks advantage, 6-2.
Lindsay Freewalt made two saves in net for the Red Hawks as she won her fourth game of the season.
Cassidy Rykowski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) made her first start in goal for the Knights, making three saves in the defeat.
At 2-2-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary begins a three game road trip on Saturday against Union College at 2:00, followed by the first Skyline contest of the season against Yeshiva on Sunday at 8:30.
