Plattsburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team opened the 2018 season with a three set loss at Plattsburgh to open play in the Best Western Plus-Ground Round Classic. The Knights, who fell by scores 18-25, 20-25, 17-25 on Friday, were led by seven kills from sophomore
Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.).
The Cardinals got off to a quick start in the match, hitting .346 as a unit and holding the Knights just four kills and a -.048 attack percentage in the opening stanza. The Knights rallied for 11 kills in each of the final two sets, but Plattsburgh committed just four miscues in each of the final two frames to earn the win.
Kralik was one of eight different players to record a kill for the Mount, putting away seven winners to go along with seven digs.
Emily Mazzurco (Middletown, N.Y.) recorded six kills for the Knights with
Nicole Spinelli (Wantagh, N.Y.) putting away five, while hitting .556.
Gries began her senior season with 22 assists and seven digs for the Mount, with classmate
Lauren LeGere (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) lifting a team-high 11 digs.
Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) rounded out the Knights with two aces to lead the Mount.
Plattsburgh was led by seven kills each from Michelle Simmons and Megan Hyde with Simmons hitting a blistering .700. Lauren DeVoe paced the team with 14 assists with Abby Bone leading the way for the Cardinals with 10 digs.
For the match, Plattsburgh finished with the advantage in kills 31-26 and hit .232 as a team. The Cardinals also finished with the edge in aces 10-5 and total team blocks 7-2.
At 0-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary continues play at Plattsburgh with non-conference matches against Plymouth State and Sage on Saturday.
