Knights Push Winning Streak To Five, Remain Unbeaten In League Play

De Meo posts five points, Doerr makes 10 saves

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team posted its fifth straight win and won its third straight league game on Friday with an 11-7 home triumph over visiting St. Joseph's-L.I. Senior Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led the offensive attack with five points, while classmate Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) recorded 10 saves in goal.
 
The Knights got off to a quick start in the game, scoring the first five goals of the contest. De Meo, Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.) and Vincent Escudero (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored first quarter goals for the Knights, with De Meo and Earle scoring inside the first four minutes of the second stanza to give the Knights the five goal edge.
 
St. Joseph's-L.I. broke through with its first goal of the game at the 7:37 mark of the second period and scored two of the final three goals of the first half, with Casey Hickey sandwiching goals around Peter Beidl's (Clifton Park, N.Y.) first maker of the season.
 
Mount Saint Mary outshot St. Joseph's 19-13 in building a 6-2 advantage at the intermission. Groundballs went to the Mount in the first half 18-12 and the Knights won five of the nine face-offs contested prior to halftime.
 
Coming out of halftime, Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and De Meo scored inside the first two minutes of the third period to push the Knights in front 8-2 and Nicholas Graziano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals in the quarter to push the Knights in front 10-4. Earle closed out the second half scoring for the Knights with his 20th of the season in the middle stages of the fourth period.
 
De Meo continued his strong senior season with a three goals and two assists, while Earle potted three goals and Graziano finished with two tallies and a pair of helpers. Freshman Anthony Kearns (Clinton, N.J.) posted two assists in the win for the Knights.
 
Beidl added two caused turnovers and a pair of groundballs to his goal on Friday with Kenneth Gallagher (Northport, N.Y.) and Matthew Martino (Watertown, Conn.) each scooping four groundballs. Gallagher rounded out the night with 10 face-off wins and Martino caused a team-high three turnovers.
 
St. Joseph's was led by two goals and three points from Hickey with Christan Prate picking up four groundballs. Declan Canevari won nine face-offs for the Golden Eagles and finished with three groundballs.
 
Doerr reached double-figures in saves for the fourth time this season and led the Mount on Friday with seven groundballs. Through 12 games he has stopped 96 shots and holds a .473 save percentage. Adam Sivon totaled 12 saves in the game for the visitors and led all players with nine groundballs.
 
Mount Saint Mary closed the night with a 39-32 edge in overall shots and a 23-17 advantage in shots on goal. Face-offs in the game were even at 10 apiece, with the Knights picking up 33 groundballs, four more than the Golden Eagles. Mount Saint Mary was an impressive 24-for-25 in clearing chances and scored twice with the man advantage.
 
Friday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 8-4 overall on the season and to a perfect 3-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights search for their sixth straight win on Wednesday when they play host to Becker. Face-off at Kaplan Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
