Fishkill, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team got back in to the win column on Tuesday night with a 12-8 non-conference win over New Rochelle. Four Knights finished the night with two hits and freshman
Andrew Connors (New Windsor, N.Y.) earned his first career win in relief.
After New Rochelle plated two runs in the top of the first inning, the Knights came right back with three tallies in the home half of the frame.
Christopher Introcaso (Newburgh, N.Y.) delivered
Anthony Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) with a run scoring triple and later scored on a
Braden Perry (Brockport, N.Y.) sacrifice fly.
The Blue Angels evened the score with a two-out RBI single from Thomas Velazquez in the third, before the Mount erupted for five runs in the bottom of the inning to pull in front for good in the game. Introcaso,
Justin Maldonado (Cold Spring, N.Y.) and
Nick Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) all produced run scoring base hits for the Knights in the inning.
Mount Saint Mary plated four more runs in the fourth frame to move in front 12-4. Maldonado drove in his second run of the night in the frame with
Steven Mirra (Wallingford, Conn.) and
Joe Stewart (Valley Stream, N.Y.) ripping RBI doubles.
Nick Rizzo finished the game 2-for-4 with a run, RBI and stolen base out of the leadoff spot with Introcaso going 2-for-2 with a double, triple, three runs and a pair of RBI. Mirra rounded out the win 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, with Maldonado going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Anthony Rizzo scored two runs for the Knights, while Stewart finished off the game with a double, walk, two runs and two RBI.
Rob Worden (Grahamsville, N.Y.) made the start for the Knights and worked the first 3.1 innings and allowed three runs on five hits while fanning two. Connors came on to allow one run on one hit in 3.1 innings in earning the win, with
Anthony Collura (Franklin Square, N.Y.) finished up with 2.0 innings of relief work.
Tuesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary 12-7 overall on the season. The Knights will be back on the field Wednesday when they play host to CCNY in a non-conference twinbill at Dutchess Stadium set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
