Kugler Sets Career Goals Record In Road Loss At Misericordia

Senior pots four goals, has 139 in his career

Dallas, Pa. – Senior Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) moved into sole possession of first place on the career goals list with four tallies on Saturday and classmate Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) posted five points, but the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team suffered its third straight loss with a 19-11 loss at Misericordia.
 
Mount Saint Mary raced out to a 7-2 lead on a Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.) goal with just over nine minutes left before halftime. After allowing the opening goal of the game, the Knights ripped off five straight goals, including three from Kugler. His first tally of the game moved him into sole possession on the goals list, topping the previous mark of 135.
 
Following the Earle tally, the Cougars scored six straight goals to close the second period and carry an 8-7 lead into the halftime intermission. Patrick Kellish scored four times over the run with Patrick Luzzi adding two goals and an assist.
 
Misericordia held a 26-19 advantage in shots at the break, including a 16-11 edge in shots on goal. The Cougars won 10 of the 16 face-offs taken in the first half to go along with a 25-15 advantage in groundballs prior to the intermission.
 
Coming out of the break the two teams alternated goals before Misericordia went on another long run, scoring the final two goals of the third frame and eight of the final nine goals of the game.
 
Kugler finished with a team-high for goals with Earle and De Meo each scoring two goals. De Meo finished with three assists and four groundballs, with Earle collecting three groundballs. Matthew Martino (Watertown, N.Y.) led the team with two caused turnovers.
 
Kellish led Misericordia with eight goals and nine points with Luzzi scoring six times and assisting on a seventh goal. John Tierney and Jake Kocovsky each assisted on three goals, with Ryan Romaine winning 18 face-offs and scooping eight groundballs.
 
Senior Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) finished with eight saves and recorded three groundballs, with Eli Laikin (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) making a career-high 11 saves and collecting two groundballs. Matthew Beck earned the win with eight stops for the Cougars.
 
Misericordia outshot Mount Saint Mary 61-31 and 38-21 in shots on goal. The Cougars held the edge in face-offs 19-12 and groundballs 52-26. The Mount went 22-for-26 in clearing chances and 1-for-7 with the man advantage.
 
At 3-4 overall, Mount Saint Mary travels to Manhattnville on Wednesday night. Face-off with the Valiants is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
