Kugler posts six points against Valiants

Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team stopped a three game slide on Tuesday night with a hard fought 12-11 road win at Manhattanville. Senior Danny Kugler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) totaled six points and Christopher Doerr (Pleasantville, N.Y.) made 14 saves in goal.

Mount Saint Mary broke open a 2-1 game in the middle of the first quarter on Tuesday with a four goal run that pushed it in front 6-1 in the final minute of the first frame. Kugler scored three times in the first stanza with Anthony Kearns (Clinton, N.J.) scoring once and assisting on two goals.

After scoring six times in the opening 15 minutes, the Knights were held to just six goals the remainder of the night. The Valiants scored the only goal of the second stanza to get to within 6-3 at halftime and pulled to within a goal twice in the third frame and twice in the final stanza.

Manhattanville would not be able to pull even with the Mount as Kugler scored in the closing seconds of the third to push the Mount in front 9-7 and Dylan De Meo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) potted a man-up goal with 2:43 left in regulation time to push the Mount in front 12-10.

Manhattanville climbed back to within a goal with a tally on the man advantage in the final minute and Doerr came up with a save on the final shot of the game with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Kugler finished the evening with five goals and six points, pushing his team lead in both categories to 32 and 34, respectively. De Meo and Kearns each scored twice and assisted on two goals with Tristan Earle (Millrift, Pa.) contributing two goals.

Kenneth Gallagher (Northport, N.Y.) won 15 face-offs for the Knights and led the way with 10 groundballs with Kearns and Matthew Martino (Watertown, Conn.) each collecting four groundballs for the Knights.

Manhattanville was led by three goals from T.J. Caccavo and got four points from Will Duval. Mike McGrath picked up six groundballs, while Soya Goto won four face-offs and scooped four groundballs.

Shots and shots on goal were even in the game at 35 and 25, respectively, with the Knights holding a 36-29 edge in groundballs and a 16-8 advantage in face-offs. The Mount went 14-for-20 in clearing chances on the night and scored once with the man advantage.
