Knights Roll To Tenth Straight Victory

Cleare posts double-double in victory

Throggs Neck, N.Y. – Senior Jessica Rini (Seaford, N.Y.) led four Knights in double-figures with a game-high 16 points and junior Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) posted a double-double, including a game-high 17 rebounds, as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team scored its 10th straight win with a 83-41 road victory at Yeshiva.
 
The two sides stayed within four points in the early going, but after Yeshiva grabbed a 10-8 lead, the Knights used a 15-3 run to close the first period and take a 23-13 lead into the second frame. The Mount's lead reached double-figures for the first time on a pair of Cleare free-throws in the final minute and reached 12 points on an Erin McCauley (Levittown, N.Y.) lay-in with 15 ticks left in the period.
 
Mount Saint Mary allowed Yeshiva as close as nine points in early in the second period, but a Cleare lay-in spread the advantage back to double-figures just over two minutes into the quarter. The advantage grew to a half-high 14 points twice in the final three minutes of the half, before the Knights took a 39-26 lead into the intermission.
 
Mount Saint Mary converted at 38.9-percent before halftime and went 0-for-7 from behind the arc, but held Yeshiva to a 31-percent conversion rate. The Knights made five more field goals overall in the half and outscored the Maccabees by six from the free-throw line. Rini led all scorers at the break with 12 points.
 
The Mount quickly spread its lead to 18 points coming out of halftime and the lead reached 50-30 on a Rini tip-in four minutes into the third frame. The Mount spread its lead to 27 points on a Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) triple to close the third quarter before the advantage bulged to a game-high and final 42 point advantage on a Janae Graham (Orange, Conn.) conversion with 67 seconds left to play.
 
Mount Saint Mary improved to 55.6-precent shooting after halftime and held Yeshiva to just 17.1-percent over the final 20 minutes. The Mount knocked in three triples after halftime and outscored the Macs 11-2 from the free-throw line.
 
Rini finished the afternoon 7-for-11 from the floor, adding five rebounds to her game-high point total. Cleare rounded out the win 5-for-8 from the floor, leading all players with 17 rebounds and adding a pair of blocked shots.
 
Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) and Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) each scored 10 points off the bench for the Knights with Limonta closing out a double-double with 11 rebounds. Jordyn Hellpap (Hackensack, N.J.) finished off the day with six points and five assists.
 
Yeshiva received 12 points from Nicole Bick and a team-high 13 rebounds from Michal Alge on Sunday.
 
For the game, Mount Saint Mary shot 46-percent and outscored Yeshiva 22-7 from the charity stripe. The Knights held a commanding 34-10 edge in paint points and a 20-6 advantage in second chance scoring.
 
Sunday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 16-5 overall on the season and to 13-1 in league play. Next up for the Knights is a trip to Farmingdale State on Wednesday. Tip-off with the Rams is set for 5:30 p.m.
