Danbury, Conn. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team has earned a berth into the ECAC Division III Tournament and will travel to Misericordia on Wednesday to open play in the First Round of the event. The Knights and Cougars will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. in Dallas, Pa.
At Glance: The Knights enter the tournament at 21-6 overall and are coming off a tight 53-47 loss to Old Westbury in the Skyline Conference Championship Final. Saturday's loss stopped a 15 game winning streak, but the Knights enter postseason play for the first time since 2012 and have posted the program's first 20-win season since the same season.
Senior
Jessica Rini (Seaford, N.Y.), who was named First Team All-Skyline Conference on Monday, leads the team in scoring with 13.0 points per game to go along with nearly eight rebounds per night. Rini is shooting 45.8-percent from the floor and is coming off a 14 point performance in the conference final on Saturday.
Junior
Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.), a Second Team All-League pick, leads the team with just under nine rebounds per game and is scoring just under 11 points per night. Cleare is shooting better than 50-percent from the floor and is second on the team with 32 blocked shots.
Elizabeth Limonta (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) has been a key player off the bench for the Knights, scoring 8.5 points per game and hauling in 7.5 rebounds per night. Limonta is a 58.4-percent shooter from the floor and leads the team with 36 blocked shots.
Freshman
Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) is handing out a team-high 3.2 assists per game and is scoring just under eight points per game with
Jordyn Hellpap (Hackensack, N.J.) tops on the team from distance with 30 three-point field goals.
As a unit, the Mount is tops in the Skyline Conference in scoring defense and third in the league in scoring offense at just under 67 points per game. The Knights shoot just over 40-percent from the floor as a team and allow opponents to convert at just 29.4-percent.
All-Conference Accolades: The Knights saw two players and their head coach honored by the league on Monday. Rini earned First Team recognition for the third straight season, while Cleare was made a Second Team pick for the second straight campaign. Head Coach
Michael Coppolino was tabbed the Skyline Coach of the Year for the second straight season after guiding the Mount to the conference's regular season crown.
Previewing the Cougars: Misericordia enters Wednesday's tilt at 16-10 overall and is coming off a 79-62 loss to FDU-Florham in the MAC Freedom Semifinal Round. The Cougars shot 41.5-percent in the game, but were outscored 23-5 from the free-throw line. Rachel Carmody led three players in double-figures with 19 points.
Carmody is one of three players scoring in double-figures for Misericordia with 10.7 points per game. Japriya Carroll leads the trio with 11.0 points per night, with Paige Wampole good for 10.0 points and a team-high 9.1 rebounds per night. Kalynn Sefcik is handing out a team-high 2.1 assists per game.
Schedule: The winners of seven First Round games will advance to the quarterfinal round to be held at Washington and Jefferson on Friday. Semifinals will be played on Saturday with the Championship game set for Sunday, March 4.
