Fishkill, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team played one game of a scheduled doubleheader on Saturday, dropping a 3-2 decision to Marywood. The second game of the set was called in the second inning due to heavy rain.
The Knights got out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings on Saturday. Senior Kevin edgar (Southampton, N.Y.) opened the scoring when he delivered
Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) with a sacrifice fly in the first and
Christopher Introcaso (Newburgh, N.Y.) drove home Goodwin in the third on another sacrifice fly for his first RBI of the season in the third.
The Pacers answered with all three of their runs in the top of the sixth, getting only two hits. Jake Schuster doubled home a run before Scott Becker drove in the tying run on a fielder's choice. The deciding run came home a single to center from Mitch Clemons with two outs in the inning.
The Knights managed only two hits in the contest, with Goodwin and
Chris McLaren (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.) each singling. Goodwin scored a pair of runs in his collegiate debut, while McLaren and
John Santana (Warwick, N.Y.) each stole a base.
Ryan Hayes (Robbinsville, N.Y.) suffered the tough luck loss, allowing three runs on five hits in 5.1 innings of work. He struck out three and walked two in his initial appearance of the season.
Alexander Maher (Mineola, N.Y.) came on to work 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, fanning two.
At 0-1 on the season, Mount Saint Mary returns to action on March 2 when it plays host to Brockport. First pitch at Dutchess Stadium is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
