Baseball Splits Non-Conference Set With Albertus Magnus

Goodwin produces four hits over two games

Wappingers Falls, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday with a non-conference split against Albertus Magnus at Dutchess Stadium. The Knights scored a 6-5 walk-off win in the opener before dropping a tight 4-3 decision to the Falcons in game two.
 
Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 6 – Albertus Magnus 5
The Knights overcame a 4-2 deficit in game one with four runs over its final three at-bats. The Mount pulled in front 5-4 with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, keyed by run scoring singles from Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and John Santana (Warwick, N.Y.).
 
After the Falcons pulled evened the score at 5-5 with a run in the top of the seventh, the Knights plated the game winning run in their final at-bat. After two Mount hitters with plunked to load the bases, freshman Steven Bauer (Goshen, N.Y.) singled home Tom Huvane (Eastchester, N.Y.) with the deciding tally.
 
Goodwin, Santana and Nick Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) each finished the opener with two hits and an RBI with Goodwin and Santana scoring runs. Blake Keenan (Fishkill, N.Y.) tripled for the Knights, scored a run and delivered an RBI.
 
Keenan made the start on the mound for the Knights and worked 4.0 innings and allowed one earned run. He struck out three and walked four. Christian Spano (Mahopac, N.Y.) picked up the win in relief striking out two in an inning of work.
 
Game 2: Albertus Magnus 4 – Mount Saint Mary 3
The Falcons plated three runs in the first inning in game two and never trailed in the game. Christian Bradley tripled home two runs in the first with Eric Therrien adding an RBI double in the team's first at-bat.
 
The Knights answered in the home half of the first on a Huvane run scoring single and later knotted the score at 3-3 in the third inning on run scoring base hits from Huvane and Christopher Introcaso (Newburgh, N.Y.).
 
The Falcons moved back in front with a run without a hit in the fifth and the Knights went on to load the bases in the home half of the frame, but were unable to even the score. The Mount went without a baserunner in its final two at-bats, settling for the split.
 
Goodwin added two more hits in game two with a run scored, with Introcaso and Huvane each adding two safeties. Huvane drove in a pair of runs with Mirra joining Santana with a hit and a run scored in game two.
 
Santana suffered the loss on the mound, working 5.0 innings and allowing a single earned run. He surrendered three hits and fanned seven. Nick Zestanakis (Bayside, N.Y.) and Alexander Maher (Mineola, N.Y.) each worked scoreless innings in relief for the Mount.
 
At 1-2 overall, the Knights are scheduled to return to action on Sunday for a non-conference set with New Paltz. First pitch with the Hawks is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Dutchess Stadium.
