Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team suffered its second consecutive loss on Tuesday, falling at home to Vassar College, 69-58.
Senior
Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) led the Knights with a double-double, scoring 17 points and ripping down 14 rebounds on the night. Freshman
Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) was the second double digit scorer with 13 points, adding seven rebounds.
Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) had nine points and chipped in three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) and
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) each had two steals to lead the Mount.
The Knights kept the game tight at halftime, trailing by a score of 27-21, after limiting the Brewers to 22 percent shooting in the second quarter.
The Brewers got hot coming out of the half, scoring 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting in the third quarter, outscoring the Mount 24-11. The Knights outscored Vassar in the final period, 26-18, and shot 46 percent from the field.
Vassar was led by Jackie Cenan, who had 21 points, and added eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Isa Peczuh had nine points, knocking down three three-pointers, and chipped in seven rebounds and three assists.
Vassar held the slim shooting advantage of 39 percent to 35 percent as well as the three-point percentage at 33 percent to 17 percent.
At 1-2 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary finishes their homestand next week against College of Staten Island on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Yeshiva on Thursday at 6 p.m.
