Newburgh, N.Y. – Led by 14 kills from senior
Alex Klesin (Glendale, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team picked up its third home win of the season on Tuesday with an impressive 25-15, 25-13, 25-17 Skyline Conference win over visiting Maritime.
The Knights trailed only briefly in the match, falling behind 3-0 and 4-1 in the third set before running off six of the next eight points to move in front for good in the match. The Mount finished the third set with five more kills than the visitors and hit a blistering .450.
Mount Saint Mary put away at least 11 kills in each of Tuesday's three sets, including 17 in the opening frame while hitting .268. The Mount added 11 more winners in the middle set and hit .296 to open a 2-0 lead on the night.
Klesin was one of nine different players to record a kill for the Mount in the match, posting a match-high 14 while hitting .407 in 27 attacks.
Madelyn Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) put away eight kills, adding a pair of service aces and a team-high eight digs.
Emily Mazzurco (Middletown, N.Y.) chipped in with five kills for the Knights, with
Nicole Spinelli (Wantagh, N.Y.) rounding out the night with four winners.
Senior
Kim Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.), who handed out her 2,000
th career assists on Saturday, handed out a match-high 23 helpers against the Privateers and added two kills to the winning effort.
Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) finished off the evening with eight helpers and a team-high four service aces.
McKenna Cronin (Prospect, Conn.) finished off a strong night with a trio of aces and four digs.
Maritime was led by six kills from Abigail Steele and received five winners from Meredith Hayes. Erika Kirchner handed out 12 assists and Abigail Solomos led all players on the night with 11 digs.
Mount Saint Mary finished the night hitting season-high .318 and posted a 39-15 advantage in kills. The Knights controlled the service game with an 11-3 edge in aces, while Maritime recorded the only block of the night.
At 11-11 overall and 3-2 in Skyline Conference play, Mount Saint Mary returns to action on Thursday when it welcomes Yeshiva to the Kaplan Center. First serve with the Maccabees is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
