Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team remained unbeaten in home matches on the season and collected its second straight Skyline Conference victory with a 25-5, 25-15, 25-7 win over Yeshiva on Thursday. Eight different Knights finished the match with at least one service ace in the win.
The Mount got off to a quick start in the contest, scoring the first 10 points of the opening frame. The Knights got off to a similar start in the third set, running out to a 10-0 lead again on the strength of a
Klaire Wall (Point Pleasant, N.J.) service ace.
The Knights trailed only briefly in the match, falling behind 6-5 in the early stages of the middle stanza. The Mount rallied with a 4-1 spurt keyed by a pair of
Kim Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) service aces to grab the lead for good on the night.
Eleven different players finished with a kill for the Mount, led by seven from junior
Morgan Burke (Ringwood, N.J.) who hit a blistering .875 on the night.
Emily Mazzurco (Middletown, N.Y.) and
Alex Klesin (Glenwood, N.Y.) each rounded out the win with four winners apiece.
Mount Saint Mary posted a season-high 23 service aces with eight different players with an ace and six different players with at least two aces. Gries paced the Mount with six aces, while Wall totaled five in the win.
Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) and
McKenna Cronin (Prospect, Conn.) each finished with three aces for the Knights.
Gries closed out a strong all-around match with 14 assists with
Danielle Kralik (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) lifting a team-high eight digs.
Yeshiva was led by four winners from Tehilla Teigman who joined Abigail Epstein with a team-high four digs. Teigman rounded out the night with a pair of service aces for the Maccabees.
Mount Saint Mary finished the night hitting .346, holding a 28-7 edge in kills. The Knights dominated the service game with a 23-2 advantage in aces, while Yeshiva posted the only two blocks of the night.
At 12-11 overall and 4-2 in Skyline Conference play, Mount Saint Mary returns to action on Saturday when they head to Wayne, N.J. to take on Staten Island and William Paterson starting at 1:00 p.m.
