Knights Top St. Joseph's-L.I.; Advance To Skyline Conference Championship Final

Ellsworth nets two in win

Newburgh, N.Y. – Freshman Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.) scored two second half goals to push the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team to a 3-1 conference semifinal victory against St. Joseph's-LI on Wednesday night. The win advances the Mount to the Skyline Championship Final for the ninth straight season.

Ellsworth received two beautiful feeds from just outside the box, one by Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) in the 80th minute and the other by Ashley Hunter (North Babylon, N.Y.) in the 85th minute. The goals were the second and third goals of the season for Ellsworth, marking her second consecutive game with a goal scored. Cannella got the scoring started for the Knights in the 30th minute on a penalty kick for her fourth goal of the season.

Alexa Franceschi (Red Hook, N.Y.) and Ellsworth led the team in shots with four each and Ellsworth had the most shots on goal with three.

Christina Gagliardi tied the game at 1-1, her conference-leading 19th goal of the season, for the Golden Eagles in the 47th minute on a feed from Kristin Schoenhofen.

Cassidy Rykowski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) earned her 10th win of the season in goal. Juliana Cintron-Leonardo made 5 saves for St. Joseph's-LI in the loss.

Overall, Mount Saint Mary finished with a 14-4 advantage in shots, including an 8-1 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks in the contest were in favor of the Mount, 5-3.

At 13-5-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary advances to their ninth straight Skyline Championship final to face off against #21 Farmingdale State on Saturday. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
