Newburgh, N.Y. – Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team and #21 Farmingdale State played to a scoreless draw on Saturday in the Skyline Conference Championship, with the Knights dropping a heartbreaker on penalty kicks.
The Knights carried play for much of the contest, heading into halftime with a 7-1 advantage in shots as well as shots on goal, 5-0.
Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) lead the team in shots in the game with three and
Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.) lead in shots on goal with two.
Cassidy Rykowski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) made three saves in goal for the Knights. Daniella Ford made seven saves for Farmingdale State.
After playing 110:00 of scoreless soccer, the two teams went to the shootout to determine who would move on to represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament. The Knights missed their first two kicks while the Rams buried their first two attempts.
Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) made her kick and
Julia DeSantis (Islip, N.Y.) also made one while Farmingdale missed three straight attempts. Following a Mount Saint Mary miss, Olympia Lewis made the deciding kick to send the Rams to the NCAA tournament.
Overall, Mount Saint Mary finished with a 12-10 advantage in shots, including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were in favor of Farmingdale at 3-2.
Mount Saint Mary will await an ECAC tournament bid with a 13-5-2 overall record.
