Knights Set For Skyline Semifinal Matchup With St. Joseph's-L.I.

MSMC looking for ninth straight trip to championship final

Newburgh, N.Y. – In a rematch last season's conference semifinal matchup, the second seeded Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team will play host to third seeded St. Joseph's-L.I. on Wednesday in a 2018 Skyline Conference Championship Semifinal. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Kaplan Field with live stats available for those who cannot attend the contest.

At A Glance: The Knights enter Wednesday's contest at 12-5-1 and winners of nine of their final 10 regular season contests. The Knights finished the regular season with a tough 2-1 road loss against Farmingdale State for their only blemish in conference play.

The Mount is outscoring opponents 49-16 entering Wednesday's tilt and surrendered only four goals to conference opponents over the course of the regular season. The Knights featured five players who had 10 or more points.

Junior Theresa Stinson (Troy, N.Y.) and senior Maeve O'Sullivan (Garden City Park, N.Y.) lead the team in goals with seven apiece. Stinson, O'Sullivan and sophomore Gina Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.) are tied for the points lead with 16.

Senior Claire Newman (Cromwell, C.T.) and sophomore Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) round out the quintet with 10 points each. Freshman Julia DeSantis (Islip, N.Y.), the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week on October 15, has scored four times for the Mount.

In goal, freshman Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.), two-time Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, and sophomore Cassidy Rykowski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) have split time in goal for the Knights. Rykowski registered 1162 minutes in goal, posting a .736 save percentage, 1.08 goals against average and made 39 saves. Ellsworth played 430 minutes, before getting injured, posting a .938 save percentage, 0.42 goals against average and made 30 saves. Rykowski is third in the conference in shutouts and second in goals against average.

Last Time Out: The Mount dropped a tight 2-1 contest against Farmingdale State on October 24. Ellsworth scored her first goal of the season late in the second half to put the Knights within a goal. Rykowski made eight saves in net to keep the Mount in the game. Farmingdale held a 21-8 shots advantage as well as an 8-3 shots on goal advantage.

Scouting St. Joseph's: The Golden Eagles come to town with a 10-6 overall record and are coming off a 4-0 First Round win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday. St. Joseph's has won its last five outings and did not allow a goal over those five contests.

Christina Gagliardi, two-time Skyline Conference Player of the Week, paces the scoring attack with 18 goals and 43 points on the season. Carly Credidio enters Wednesday's tilt with five goals and 16 points, with Shannon Condron registering four goals and 13 points. Gagliardi is second in the conference in goals and third in points.

In net, Juliana Cintron-Leonardo has played all 1447:16 and holds a 1.18 goals against average, a .829 save percentage. She has stopped 92 opponent shots and has registered eight shutouts on the season. Cintron-Leonardo is second in the conference in save percentage, third in goals against average and leads the conference in shutouts.

Regular Season Matchup: The Knights scored a 3-2 win on October 7 in Patchogue, outshooting the Golden Eagles 22-7. Stinson scored the first goal in the 12th minute and Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) scored the second goal in the 26th minute, with Kayla Davis (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) scoring the eventual game-winner in the 34th minute. Rykowski made three saves in goal for the victory. The Mount also held the shots on goal advantage of 15-5.

Championship History: The Knights will appear in the Skyline Conference Championship for the 12th straight season and are in search of their ninth straight trip to the Skyline Conference Championship Final.

Since 2007, the Knights and Golden Eagles have met seven times in the conference championship with the Mount winning four times. The last meeting came in the 2017 semifinal with the Mount advancing on penalty kicks.

What's At Stake: The winner of Wednesday's game will take on the winner of Sarah Lawrence and Farmingdale State semifinal for a berth into the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, November 3.
