Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team's nine game winning streak was snapped in a 2-1 defeat against #22 Farmingdale State on Wednesday night.
Alyssa Parotta scored twice for Farmingdale to put them on top. She buried one in the back of the net in the 28
th and the 50
th minutes. Brittney Starzee assisted on the first goal and Cailyn Demarinis and Megan Murdocco both were credited with an assist for the second.
Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the year to put the Knights within a goal late in the second half. Her goal was unassisted in the 88
th minute. Ellsworth,
Alexa Franceschi (Red Hook, N.Y.) and
Julia DeSantis (Islip, N.Y.) were tied for the team lead in shots with two each.
The Knights were outshot 21-8 and the shots on goal advantage was credited to the Rams as well in a favor of 8-3. Farmingdale State held a 4-3 corner kicks advantage.
Cassidy Rykowski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) made eight saves in net in the loss for the Mount. Daniella Ford made three saves in the victory for the Rams.
The loss moves the Mount to 12-5-1 overall for the season and 8-1-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights have earned the #2 seed in the Skyline Conference Tournament, giving them a first round bye. They will host a Skyline Semifinal contest on Wednesday October 31. Opponent and game time are TBA.
