Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) netted two goals for the Mount Saint Mary Men's Soccer team as they completed a 3-0 shutout of Purchase on Saturday. The win is the Mount's third straight heading into the regular season finale.
Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.) potted the eventual game-winner in 43
rd minute off a free kick. The goal was the second of the season for the sophomore. The goal came on the Mount's eighth shot of the first half as they went into the intermission with an 8-7 edge in attempts.
Doyle took the team lead in goals after scoring his seventh goal of the season in the 63
th minute off a cross from
Anthony Gugliemo (Setauket, N.Y.) and his eighth in the 69
th minute on a breakaway opportunity. The helper was Guglielmo's second of the season.
The Knights held the lead in shots, 16-11, as well as the shots on goal advantage at 9-4. Purchase held a large corner kicks advantage of 5-1.
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) earned his sixth victory in goal for Knights. He made four saves in 82 minutes of action.
Sean Madden (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) came in relief in net for the Mount, making his fourth appearance of the season.
Jordan Meade made six saves in the loss for the Panthers.
Saturday's win moves the Mount to 11-5-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the Skyline Conference. Next up for Mount Saint Mary is the final game of the regular season on Wednesday against St. Joseph's-LI at Kaplan Field. Kickoff against the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
