Connor Lynch (Clifton Park, N.Y.) each scored and sophomore
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) recorded his second shutout of the season as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team posted its third straight win with a 2-0 road victory at Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday.
The Knights struck twice prior to halftime against the Gryphons for all the scoring they would need in the game. Caronia potted his second goal of the season in the 21
st minute. He collected a cross from
Fred Stark (Hollis, N.Y.) and tucked a shot inside the near post to give the Mount a 1-0 lead at the 20:06 mark of the tilt.
The Mount saw its lead double just over 12 minutes later when Lynch deposited his fourth goal of the season in the 33
rd minute.
Matthew Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) started a corner kick that Lynch headed in at 32:46 to finish off the scoring in the game.
Mount Saint Mary finished the first half with a 17-2 advantage in shots and took five of the seven corner kicks taken in the opening 45 minutes.
Despite 10 more shots in the second frame, the Mount was held off the board, taking the 2-0 final and its third win to open conference play.
Lynch moved into first on the team with his fourth goal of the year, while Wyant pushed his team lead in assists to five and points to 11. Stark picked up his fifth point of the season with his third helper of the year.
Rapp put up his second straight clean sheet on Tuesday, making a pair of saves in the win. He has 15 saves on the year and lowered his goals against average to 2.14. Matteo Romano finished up with eight stops on the afternoon for the Gryphons.
Mount Saint Mary finished the game with a 27-4 advantage in overall shots and recorded 10 of the 12 shots on goal in the game. The Knights dominated corner kicks in the game, 11-4.
Tuesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 7-4 overall on the season and to a perfect 3-0 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Mount is a home contest with Old Westbury on Friday night. Kick-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
