Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team pushed its winning streak to seven games and remained unbeaten in conference play on Saturday with a 3-0 home win over Purchase. Three different Knights scored in the win, including
Maeve O'Sullivan (Garden City Park, N.Y.) who totaled three points.
The Knights controlled play for much of the afternoon and broke through with the eventual game winning goal in the 12
th minute. O'Sullivan made a pass inside the box to freshman
Kayla Davis (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) who deposited her third goal of the season at the 11:35 mark of the contest.
Although the Davis goal was the only marker of the opening stanza, the Knights held a commanding 12-2 edge in shots at the intermission and took each of the four corner kicks awarded in the first half.
Mount Saint Mary played in the offensive end for the majority of the second half, but would not break through with its second goal of the game until the 61
st minute. Freshman
Julia DeSantis (Islip, N.Y.) buried a centering feed from
Gina Rivera (Washingtonville, N.Y.) at the 60:24 mark to give the Knights a two goal advantage.
The Knights increased their lead to three goals with just over four minutes left in regulation time when O'Sullivan picked up her fourth goal of the season. She headed in a feed from
Ashley Hunter (North Babylon, N.Y.) at 85:40 to close out the scoring in the game.
O'Sullivan's scoring output moves her into a tie for fourth on the team in points with seven, while Rivera picked up her third assist of the season and moved her team lead in points with 15. Hunter recorded her second helper of the year and Davis moved into a tie for the team lead with three game winning goals.
Sophomore
Cassidy Rykowski (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) picked up her fourth shutout of the season after making a single stop in the first half for the Knights. She lowered her goals against average on the season to 1.19 and raised her save percentage to .700. Amber Yarter had a busy afternoon for the Panthers, finishing with 13 stops.
Mount Saint Mary finished with a lopsided advantage in each team category, outshooting Purchase 27-2 overall, 16-1 in shots on goal and added an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Saturday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 10-4-1 overall on the season and to 6-0-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights continue a four game home stand on Tuesday when they play host to Maritime. Kick-off with the Privateers is set for 7:00 p.m.
